Literacy Assessment Corps & Common Data

The Literacy Assessment Corps (LAC) is a team of dedicated individuals who are passionate about literacy equity in Detroit and serve the coalition by providing capacity and administering the common literacy assessment to children in grades K-3. Assessing students across summer and out-of-school programs helps build shared data and continuous improvement, ultimately ensuring that all Detroit literacy programs are supported in providing the research- based, data-informed literacy practices our students deserve.

313Reads intentionally recruits LAC Members who are embedded members of the Detroit community will remain with the team for multiple years of programming in order to build relationships with program providers, students, and families.

With support from Skillman Foundation, 313Reads has been providing capacity to coalition partners by training and engaging Virtual Literacy Assessors (VLAs) since Summer 2021. The LAC builds on the strengths and lessons learned from administering a common assessment with fidelity during a pandemic. Since launching in January 2022, the Literacy Assessment Corps has supported coalition partners with the administration of student assessment during our pilot phase of the new common assessment–Acadience Reading Diagnostic. This assessment is facilitated through a new online platform called Acadience Learning Online, which has significantly streamlined the process of administering assessments and also provides immediate access to data and results to partners.

As 313Reads ramps up for our coalition’s annual push to mitigate summer learning loss, we are recruiting additional Literacy Assessment Corps members. Please share the opportunity with anyone in your network who aligns with our mission and may be interested!
